Sex, sex, sex, sex, sex!

Made you look! Seriously, is there a more explosive, provocative word in the blogosphere than sex? Take a few minutes and look at the blog posts with the most page views on this or any other blog network. Almost always the most popular posts are the ones that use the word sex in the title, or other sexually suggestive language.
So, as a blogger you're faced with a decision. Do you rely upon sexual content to increase your blog's readership? Or, do you choose other, less provocative subjects that are sure to lure fewer curious readers?
In my judgment, the most popular and effective blogs are those that play it straight - that avoid manipulating readers with come-on titles and subjects that play to our base instincts. Honest, heartfelt writing is evidence of integrity. And, over time, readers will come to respect and expect it from the bloggers they admire the most.
I'm certainly not advocating that sex ought to be an out-of-bounds subject. To the contrary, if you're blog is about sexual issues, lifestyles or other similar subjects, by all means blog away. Write about sex because it's the central subject of your blog, and not because of its voyeuristic appeal.
Frankly, relying on lacivious language to build an audience is pretty lame. If sex is your subject, fine. But, don't use this powerful word as a crutch. Readers will see through the ruse in short order, and your blog will be on life support before you know it. Now, start writing!

I try at times to get catchy headlines, but they must weave relevantly with the topic at hand.

I am so excited. I'm having a dinner party and we'll be talking about sex, and sex, sex, sex, sex, sex.
You're just simply mad about it.
Do come and meet me and we'll see about getting you an invitation.
I can't wait to have your views and I'll be exploring your site in depth.

Actually no i don't resort to sex. Except for the "Screech Sex Tape scandal" but that's a different story.
It's true though. All the erotic craziness of Orble gets a lot of comments and votes. But, TV does well to so I'll stick with that.
Aaron.
